Vision Drives Innovation. No Innovation…The End Is Near

Progress is impossible without change.  With today’s pace of change happening at an accelerating rate, dealing with change, which has never been easy, is even more challenging.  And as Jack Welsh, former CEO of GE said, “If the rate of change on the outside exceeds the rate of change on the inside, the end is near.”

To remain relevant in today’s hyper-competitive marketplace, companies have to navigate this hyper-change environment.  The problem is most companies are very conservative, not very innovative or creative, and few are prepared or preparing for the future. 

Vision – a future reality that you really believe is possible with a concentrated effort – drives change and innovation.  Without vision, there is no innovation.  What you want to become is much more important than what you are today.  A compelling vision ‘pulls’ and ‘inspires’ people to a new beginning, igniting the flames of innovation and creativity to get there.  Without a vision, companies stall and often die into the night. 

Is your company lacking a vision?  Make the time for creating a vision for the future.  Get out of the urgent, and get to the important.  Set a big hairy audacious goal (BHAG) 10 to 20 years out, and then create a vivid description of what the company will look like at that time.  This becomes your vision, the North Star your company is working towards.  To reach that North Star, your company will have to be creative and innovative, navigating through change and roadblocks to become a company that knows how to remain relevant – or that end is closer than you think.
